anter: Just returned from the Oriental Arts Center. Jon Kimura Parker reminded me of Schroeder from Peanuts. Same posture when playing. The program was all fine and dandy but he played an encore, a movement from Appassionata. Oh my!

This must have been exhausting for the three musicians. It was exhausting to watch and listen two. They performed without a break for over an hour. Chamber orchestra in this setting with boats on the river and bleak sky, such a lovely Sunday afternoon.

The real gem of the evening- J. Brahms: Symphony No.3 in F major, Op.90 Program: J. Brahms: Variations on a Theme by Haydn, Op.56a..... drives forward with the most interesting variations, movement 3 (I think?), is a gorgeous bit of string playing and a unique repetition of sound, new to my ears. And I thought I'd leave early but this alone made the event worthwhile. less

As TD states above, Haydn's string quartets can be brilliant. I particularly like String Quartet in D, Opus 76 No 5. The Finale Presto is joy-inducing.
